"Minnesota Vikings Plan to Release RB Dalvin Cook, Miami Dolphins Interested in Signing"

The Minnesota Vikings are planning to release running back Dalvin Cook, according to a source. They have attempted to trade him but will proceed with his release if a trade doesn't happen. Cook, who is turning 28 in August, was set to have a significant cap hit for the 2023 season. The Miami Dolphins are reportedly interested in signing him once he becomes a free agent. The Vikings have re-signed Cook's backup, Alexander Mattison, suggesting a split was expected. Mattison is expected to become the team's primary running back. Cook has had a history of injuries but managed to have four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. His efficiency numbers decreased in 2022, and he underwent shoulder surgery earlier this year. The Vikings would save $9 million in cap space by releasing him after June 1.
